{DIY} Cucumber Facial Masks

I love cucumbers! Not just in salads, but as a beauty aid too. Have you ever been to a spa for a facial and been given thick slices of cold cucumber to place on your eyes? They are used for facials due to their ability to help the skin and eyes.

Skin and cucumbers have the same pH as the skin so they help restore the slightly acidic film on the surface of skin. Cucumbers used in beauty can also offer beneficial hydrating, nourishing and astringent properties.

Using cucumbers on the skin is a great way to effectively treat problem areas without toxic conventional products. Cucumber is known to help reduce dark eye circles, reducing swelling around the eye, rejuvenate tired eyes and calm skin issues.

I’ll show you how to make a homemade face mask with two of my favorite face masks for a DIY facial at home! These are not for a peel off face mask, as they easily rinse off without pulling on the skin.

Homemade Cucumber Toning Mask

A cucumber toning mask can be used to hydrate and tone skin. Silica in cucumbers have a rich source of nutrients that replenishes the skin and offer help for acne prone skin. This cucumber toning mask recipe creates a gel mask that restores suppleness and radiance to the skin.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tbs. ground almonds
  • 2 tbs. honey
  • 2 tbs. ground rolled oats

Peel the cucumber and slice it in half lengthwise. Remove the seeds, then puree the cucumber in a blender or food processor.  Add the other ingredients, and blend for 30 seconds.

To Use:
Use immediately. Spread thickly onto clean, dry skin, avoiding the sensitive area around the eyes. Leave on for 15 minutes, then rinse with plenty of warm water and pat dry.

Cucumber Eye Soothing Mask

This recipe is perfect to relieve bags under the eyes and helps reduce eye puffiness.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbs. aloe vera gel
  • 1 tsp. fresh cucumber juice
  • 1/4 tsp. cornstarch
  • 1 tbs. witch hazel

Mix aloe, cucumber and cornstarch together. Heat about 1 minute on the stove or in the microwave, until the mixture boils. Remove from heat and stir in 1 Tbs. witch hazel. Stir well and allow the mixture to completely cool. When cooled you will have a clear, jelly-like cream.

Dab a small amount under each eye covering any puffiness or bags. Leave on for about 15-20 minutes. Use a wet washcloth to remove and pat dry. This
