There are good and effective hair masks you can get from your favorite store. Here’s the thing – a really good hair mask can cost $15 or more. If your hair will need a few treatments, you may get more bang for your buck using a homemade hair mask.

If you opt for a cheap hair mask, it could be loaded with some harmful ingredients and preservatives that you may not be aware of. If you love DIY beauty, you can easily make your hair masks at home pretty cheap. Let me share a few hair mask recipes I’ve used in the past that work pretty darn well.

The things I’ll be listing below are ingredients you probably already have at home. Let’s whip up some diy hair mask & homemade hair mask!

Essential oil moisture retaining hair mask

essential oil and olive oil masks for hair

To create this hair mask, you will need castor oil, olive oil, fresh aloe vera skin, and essential oil of your choice. Grind the fresh aloe vera skin and mix it with the castor and olive oil. Add a few drops of your essential oil and mix again. When it’s properly mixed, apply to your hair and leave on for 30 minutes. Then wash it off with warm water. Do not rinse for long so that you don’t wash off the good stuff that you just put in.

Damaged hair apple cider vinegar restoring mask

A lot of people battle with damaged hair as a result of too much heat iron or harmful hair products. To create a hair mask that will help in reversing the damage already done, you will need apple cider vinegar and bentonite clay. Board-certified dermatologist Anna Guanche, MD , says apple cider vinegar is good to exfoliate scalp flakes, remove built-up residue, and boost shine (1).

There is no science to using these ingredients. Just mix the clay with some bentonite clay and one capful of apple cider vinegar and generously and thoroughly apply to your hair without leaving any part out. Leave on for the same amount of time stated above. Apple cider vinegar is already known to restore the natural pH balance of the hair while bentonite clay will help in cleansing and detoxifying your hair. When rinsing it out, you can also use some apple cider vinegar. This is another good homemade hair mask you should definitely try.
