How to use setting powder

No matter how much effort you put into your makeup, if you fail to set it in place, you might end up losing the result of your hard work in just a few hours. I’m sure you have saw flawless makeup that ends up appearing shiny as the day progresses, chances are it’s due to not using a setting powder. Or, you may be experiencing an oily face after just a few hours and not sure why.

Makeup is great, and while face primer does a good job at helping your makeup stay on for a longer time, setting powder makes sure everything still looks fresh while you are at it.

And while it is a great makeup powder, learning the right way to apply will help keep your face fresh all day. And if you have been doing it wrong all along, you will get the hang using the makeup staple in no time.

How to use setting powder

Before we go any further, it is important to state that setting powder should actually be applied to those areas that tend to shine. I’m talking about your T-zone (the forehead, along the side of the nose, and under the eyes). The aim is to tone down any potential unwanted shine even before it starts. Now, you can use setting powder all over your face, just make sure you don’t miss areas typical to getting oily.

The purpose of applying setting powder is to mainly set your liquid and cream cosmetics. It helps in absorbing extra moisture so that your makeup will look fresh for a longer time.

Tips and tricks

  • When applying setting powder, you should make use of different brushes. It’s true that powder puffs are very popular because they tend to allow you concentrate and target the powder, however, makeup brushes will help you achieve a soft-focus and diffuse application. While brush manufacturers are great at confusing people with what each brush can be used for, don’t be scared to try out different brushes when applying your setting powder. While a big fluffy brush may seem easier to get full coverage, you will be surprised to learn that those tiny eyeshadow brushes can reach hard to reach places like under the eye and around the nose.
  • Don’t believe that one setting powder works for all skin tones or skin types. Find a shade that suits your skin tone and adds life and brightness to your face without making you look dull, cakey or ashy.
  • Applying some setting spray after you have applied setting powder will help in getting rid of any remaining powder dust on your face while rehydrating it at the same time.

And that’s how to use setting powder. It’s really easy and if you already use a face powder now, you already have experience!

Not sure whats the best setting powder? I personally alternate between a few and I’m always on the lookout for new powders.
