Since fake freckles became a beauty trend, I’ve come to expect just about anything in the beauty world. However, I’ve yet to see anyone posing with acne spots as a beauty style.

Acne is not only frustrating but stubborn to treat as well. Aside from acne not being very attractive, it also comes with an urge to pick or pop, which according to skincare professionals is a bad idea. Picking at it increases the time it takes to heal and has a higher tendency of leaving dark spots. 

You are probably reading this article because you may have tried conventional acne treatments and they have not yielded many result. Or you just want to know some natural remedies for acne. Whichever one it is, you are better off with natural remedies as they are more effective and do not contain harmful chemicals. 

Here are 5 acne remedies you should know of:

Avocado oil

This superfood keeps getting better with each discovery. Avocado oil contains linolenic and linoleic acid as well as vitamins A, C, D, and E, minerals and oleic acid. These components are known to help in fighting free radicals and helping you attain beautiful skin. For people with chapped, damaged or dry skin, avocado oil is the perfect remedy.

Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil has a lot of vital properties like antimicrobial, antibacterial and anti-fungal properties that make it one of the important natural remedies for acne. Studies have show tea tree oil can as effective as benzoyl peroxide at treating acne with less side effects. To use tea tree oil on acne, you cN apply tea tree oil as spot treatment or can dilute a few drops of tea tree oil with a little bit of organic jojoba or olive oil and apply on the zit. 

I have personally use the tea tree skincare products from Farmasi, with good success. While they have an entire line of tea tree products, I’ve used the tea tree serum and tea tree clay face mask.

Apple cider vinegar

From weight loss to aiding conception, there is hardly anything apple cider vinegar cannot do. But we love the fact that it’s a good natural astringent that helps in balancing your skin’s pH level so that you are not too dry or too oily. ACV is not necessarily an acne treatment, but, it can be used as a toner. However, beauty professionals and dermatologists will always advise that you mix 1 part apple cider vinegar to 4 parts water to reduce its acidity. Apply the mixture to your face with a spritzer or cotton balls without needing to wash it off afterward. Jeffrey Fromowitz, MD, FAAD, a Florida-based dermatologist, says to apply directly to acne spots only and wash off within 30 seconds.

Aloe vera

It has been used in treating sunburn, but did you know that it is also very effective in treating acne? Aloe has both inflammation reducing properties skin-soothing properties that your skin will greatly benefit from. On close inspection, you will discover that many acne treatments contain aloe vera extract or gel. Apply some of the gel to your face and wash off with warm water after 10 minutes. 

Honey

This is another superfood that is very effective in treating acne, especially for those pesky scars from acne. You can mix honey with a teaspoon of chickpea flour, aloe vera, and just a dash of turmeric to form a paste. Smear the paste onto your face and leave for about 5 minutes. Wash it off with cool water and immediately apply ice cubes to your skin for half a minute to help in treating congestion.
