I’m sure you’ve noticed that flawlessly-looking makeup on every celebrity’s face? The secret behind it is a well-applied foundation. The same way a strong foundation is indispensable in building construction is the same way a good foundation is to the success of your makeup.

They are about 7 types of foundations ranging from powder, creamy, cake and the rest of them. But our focus today is on liquid foundation because we found that it does so well on dry and oily skin which are the two basic types of skin types.

Whether you are looking for tips on how to apply liquid foundation or how to put on foundation, we’ve got you covered.

What you will need

To begin, you will need a clean face, moisturizer, primer and your liquid foundation. The primer is important because it is what will even out your skin in readiness for the foundation. It also ensures that your makeup stays on longer than it normally would have.

Steps to applying liquid foundation

Apply primer

After cleaning and applying moisturizer, the first step to a long-lasting and flawlessly looking makeup is to apply your primer. While at it, pay more attention to your T-zone (under the eyes and around the nose) as makeup tends to wear off quickly in those areas. Learn what makeup primer is best before settling.

Apply liquid foundation

Since it’s a liquid foundation, you can pump out some of it on the back of your hand for easy application or apply small amounts around the face. Here are some of the tools you will need to apply the liquid foundation:

a. Beauty blender

This is the best tool for applying liquid foundation in my opinion. When you apply liquid foundation with beauty blender it helps give a flawless look. Damp your beauty blender with water, and then with the tip of your hand, dot some foundation on your face. Then go in with the blender and blend it in until everything is evenly distributed. Check out this post for tips on how to apply liquid foundation with a beauty blender.

I won’t lie, using a beauty blender can be an arm workout, but your finished look will be worth it.

b. Foundation brush

Before we knew about beauty blenders, foundation brushes were used. Sephora’s Pro collection #70 foundation brush is a good brush for liquid foundation.

When you apply liquid foundation with brush properly, a brush can give a full and flawless finish. For a natural look, go for a buffing brush; for medium coverage, choose a stippling brush. The foundation brush you use can make a huge difference in your final look.

When you apply foundation with a brush you simply swirl your foundation brush evenly across your face making sure not to miss your nose. Swirling the liquid foundation gently blends the foundation into your skin.

Make sure there is no harsh line on your neck! If you see a line, use the foundation brush to bring some foundation past the chin into the neck and blend.

c. Makeup sponge

If you want an inexpensive way of applying your liquid foundation, you should try sponges. They usually come in wedges and squares and still get the job done. Follow the same step as with the beauty blender, but work your blending from the center of your face and out.

Blot out excess foundation

Once you are done applying your foundation, if you notice any streaks or areas with less coverage, go back over the area with your makeup sponge, beauty blender or foundation brush and blend well. Failure to do so will make the foundation look cakey and prone to crease.

And there you have it! Now that you know how to apply liquid foundation, learning how to put on foundation is pretty easy. Play with a foundation brush and sponge to decide which you like best.
