Apply primer

To get your eyeshadow looking smooth and to last long, make sure you prime your eyes with a primer. You can easily have access to eyeshadow primers when you search for it online. If you’re new to eyeshadow primers, learn what eyeshadow primers do. One reason you should always use primer is that it keeps the eyeshadow in place, especially for those with greasy or oily skin. Even if the sun is baking you, you will find that while every other thing melts, your eyeshadow stays on. You can either use a small brush or your fingertips to apply a primer.

Apply a neutral color first

When learning how to apply eyeshadow, do note that your eyeshadow needs a base that will help all other colors you will be applying blend in. It also has a way of making your eyes pop. In your eyeshadow palette, there are different shades of colors. Choose a color that is not too dark or too light and apply it as your base. When you are done applying other colors, you will love the final result. I often go with a neutral shade unless I am going for a bold look.

Apply a dark color to your crease

You need something that will pull people in when they look at your eyes. This is why you need to apply a darker eyeshadow shade to your crease. Start from the inside and work your way out. It should be thin inside and then thicker on the outside of the crease. You will love the definition the dark color gives to your crease and makeup. Make sure you use small amounts of eyeshadow so you don’t get fallout all over your face.

Then blend well to make sure the eyeshadow is even.

Apply highlighter above crease and at brow bone

Highlighting your makeup is always important as it gives your makeup that special effect. Choose the lightest color in your eyeshadow palette and apply a little of it above the crease.

Example 1 at the brow in the tutorial above shows exact placement for brow highlighting. Dark shades have no business in your brow bone so use lighter colors to highlight your brow bone or above the crease. Blend it well. You can use eyeshadow, a highlighter or highlight pencil.

Apply a light shade to your eye corner

Applying the lighter shade in your eyeshadow palette to the corner of your eyes is one trick makeup artist swear by. They say it opens up the eye to look more awake and wider. If you are stepping out for a special event, don’t finish your makeup without doing this. To apply this, use your pinkie finger or small makeup brush and dip into the lightest color before dabbing it to the inside of your corner eyes.

Tip: I like to add a small amount of primer to my brush before dipping it into the shadow or highlighter. It helps keep it in place and sometimes eye primers have dried before we get to this step.
