5 Common Reasons Why You Experience Hair Breakage

hair breakage

I don’t think anyone is truly happy losing hair. It usually starts with brittle hair and ends start splitting. Maybe you have tried all the things you’ve been told to do like using hair products that are mild, shampooing right, using a homemade hair mask, eating a healthy diet, and yet you’re still battling with hair breakage.

When we have a lot of breakage hair begins to look choppy, uneven and split ends cause those ugly white tips. The best way to stop hair breakage is trying to prevent it! It is always easy to prevent an issues that correct it. If you can’t prevent it, here are some steps to help soften the blow of daily hair care.

Below are some oversights that may be responsible for your hair breakage and what you can do about them. A few, many don’t even realize can be the culprit of breakage.

Rigorous towel-drying

Do you know that drying your hair with a towel no matter how soft it is can cause your hair to break? When you vigorously rub your hair and scalp with a towel, you encourage the hair to break. Next time you dry your hair, use a T-shirt or a microfiber towel to gently blot out the water and then wrap up your hair with it. Check out this t-shirt hair drying hack that’s helping tame the mane.

Heat styling: Blow Dryer or Hot Iron

The quickest way to damage your hair is to use a heat iron and blow dryer too frequently. Overheating can cause your hair to dry out and then the cuticles to dry and snap off. Try air drying your hair and if you must use heat, make sure you apply heat protector and use lower settings as well. Your hot iron does not need to be set on high to work, and products like Protect & Prevent Spray or Invisible Oil Primer help protect hair from heat damage.

Brushing

The way you brush your hair can also make it break especially if you just stepped out of the shower. Also, using a brush that has plastic bristles can lead to hair breakage. So, choose brushes that have wide-spaced brittles. Boar-brittle brushes are known to evenly distribute oil on your hair. And they are also gentle on your hair. If the hair has knots, use wide-toothed combs beginning from the end of your strands before working your way up.

Not covering your hair when sleeping

I don’t how else to shorten the title but I believe you already get the point. Sleeping with your hair uncovered causes some friction between your hair and your pillow which leads to hair breakage. Always tie your hair loosely and cover with a silk or satin air cover before hitting the sack.

Tight hairstyles

Whether it’s your natural hair, braids or weaves with hair extensions, your hair will be liable to break when it is held too tightly. Tight ponytails or buns can make your hair weak if you always style your hair that way. Don’t ever let your stylist braid your hair too tight even with the promise that it will last longer. What you stand to lose is more than having the braids last for a longer time. And when pulling your hair up for a ponytail or a bun wrap, don’t pull tightly and never use elastic bands but instead choose fabric-covered bands.
