Have you heard that the latest way to dry wet hair is with a T-shirt? You may be wondering what happened to hair towels and their super absorbent benefit. Sorry to burst your bubble, but with towels, your hair may get dry, but you will end up with unruly and frizzy hair. If you have wavy or curly hair, your bathroom towel could be the root of your frizzy mane.

Wondering how you can use that old T-shirt from your high school days to dry your hair without it turning into a nightmare? Relax because you are about to discover the latest hair-taming miracle that defies everything you’ve known and believed about drying wet hair until now.

Why you should wrap your wet hair with a T-shirt

First things first; drying your hair with a towel after washing it or coming out from the rain is a bad idea. The reason for this is that your hair is soft and weak when wet, going in with your regular hair or bathing towel to dry it leaves your hair at the mercy of the towel grooves. The grooves aggressively attach your hair cuticle and make sure that it absorbs not just the wetness but the moisture that your hair naturally contains. You want to get rid of the excess water not the moisture from your hair. When you clean with a towel, your hair becomes weaker and softer with a lot of frizz.

So, why should choose a T-shirt instead of a towel to dry your hair? With a T-shirt, your hair will be ridden of the excess water but you won’t end up with frizz. With T-shirts, there is no groove instead what you have is a flat surface fabric that absorbs water and smoothly slides over hair without roughing it up.

If you feel differently about using a T-shirt to dry your hair, there is another alternative for you. Heard of microfiber towels? They are a good substitute for regular hair towel. They are lightweight, won’t frizz your hair, and works very well for people with curly hair (you get to retain your natural curl).

4-steps to drying your hair with a T-shirt

1.    When you are done with washing your hair, or you are coming out from the rain with your hair all wet, get an old T-shirt, gently wring your wet hair with it to get rid of the excess water. Gather all your hair and wrap it up with the T-shirt and squeeze again to absorb even more water.

2.    Pull your flipped and upside down hair through the T-shirt opening to stretch it around your hairline.

3.    Then twist the T-shirt and when you reach the end, tuck the twisted T-shirt underneath your neck nape.

4.    Leave on the T-shirt for 15 to 20 minutes and then undo it and style as you like.

When your hair is dry, check to see how different it looks and feels from when you used to use a towel to dry your hair. Feel free to apply hair products to your hair before or after drying your hair with a T-shirt.
