6 Types Of Hair Dye You Should Know Of

Looking to change your look and try out something new? Dyeing your hair will be a good place to start. If you’re a DIY’er knowing what each type of product is will help you pick what’s best for you.

It’s amazing how the right hair dye color can take years out of your age. And whatever type of look you are gunning for; there is a hair dye to help you achieve it.

However, you should know that there are different types of hair dye before ordering for one.

If you’re considering dyeing your hair for the first time but don’t know where to start, here are 6 types of hair dye there is:

1. Permanent hair dye – this type is good for when you’re willing to rock a particular hair color for a long time. It’s usually made with a more complex chemical so as to penetrate deeply into your hair. Don’t be surprised to see the hair color sticking around weeks after you first applied it. You can use permanent hair dye to darken, tone or lighten your hair. Although it lasts longer than other types of hair dye, you will need to reapply the hair dye to your roots when new growths start sprouting.

2. Semi-permanent hair dye – this is perfect for when you’re not too sure how a certain hair color will look on you. If your hair is looking dull and you want something that will add shine and gloss to it, try semi-permanent hair dye. And if you want something you can use to grow out your permanent hair color, applying semi-permanent hair dye to your root will do the magic.

3. Temporary hair dye – temporary hair dye is very common among people starting out new in hair dyeing. It’s great for such times when you want to wear a bold look for a picture or an event. It doesn’t penetrate into your hair shaft but only coats the outside. So, by the time you shampoo your hair, your original hair color will surface. But do not apply temporary hair dye to a damaged hair as you won’t like the result when you wash it off.

4. Highlights – While we’re still on the topic of different types of hair dye the discussion will not be complete without mentioning highlights. Highlights are great for reviving tired and weak-looking hair to give it some depth, shade, and tone. In this instance, you will not need to color your entire hair. A few touches here and there are all that is needed to have your hair standing out again. Highlights are made with permanent color but you won’t have a problem transitioning, unlike a full permanent hair dye.

5. Hair bleach – do you have brunette or very dark hair and want to lighten it before dyeing it your preferred color? Hair bleach will do the job. Remember that just as the name goes, hair bleach may damage your hair depending on the texture of your hair.

6. Root dye – if you’re struggling with gray hair, and you don’t want to dye all your hair, root dye will help you maintain your hair’s natural color. All you need is a root touch up and all that gray will be covered. You can choose to go with permanent dye for a longer lasting color or temporary root spray when you are in a hurry and need some quick touch.
