Makeup Monday: Q&A with Instagram MUA Artist

Welcome to the 1st Makeup Monday Makeup Artist Q&A. I’m really excited about the new series and hope it helps to inspire you in your journey.

While surfing makeup looks on social media one day, I came across Jennifer Loncaric, a self-taught makeup artist from Regensburg, Germany currently living in New York. Her makeup style is unique and really fun.

She may be small in stature (5 ft tall), but this mom of 3 can slay some big deal makeup!

Q & A with Self-taught MUA Jennifer Loncaric

Q: How long have you enjoyed the art of makeup?
A: 16 years

Q:What sparked your interest in makeup?
A: I found some at my grandparents house in their bathroom cabinet, and after playing with it just lit up a light in me.

Q: How long did it take you to feel confident enough to show your work off?
A: 10 years, I was very shy at first as it wasn’t a huge thing in middle school to wear a lot of makeup let alone crazy colors!

Q: What technique has been your hardest to learn?
A: Double cut creases because I have hooded eyes.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?Working in a spa and doing makeup professionally.
A: I am currently attending beauty school for esthetics.

Q: For everyday makeup looks, do you like a natural or glam look?
A: Glam for sure!

Q: Whats your favorite makeup color combination
Coral and brown

Q: Do you like a small or dramatic eyeliner wing?
Dramatic all the way!

Q: Do you like working with cream or powder products?
Powder

Q: What type of eyeliner do you like to work with (gel, pencil, ect.)?
Gel

Q: If you had to pick between highlighter or blush, which one would you pick and why?
A: Highlighter! I love shining like a disco ball!

Q: Do you prefer setting powder or spray? Why?
A: Spray because I love to look dewy.

Q: How many makeup brushes do you own?
A: 58

Q: What’s your favorite brand currently?
A: Anastasia Beverly Hills

Q: Is there one beauty tool you can’t imagine living without?
A: Beauty blender

Q: How do you clean your makeup brushes?
A: Johnson’s baby soap

Q: If you could only use one eyeshadow palette for the rest of your life, which palette would you choose?
A: Hands down the “Etude” palette by saucebox cosmetics.

Q: Do you have a favorite lip color?
A: Mauve

Q: Lipstick or gloss?
A: Lipstick

Q: Matte or satin finished lips?
A: Matte

Q: Have you had any permanent makeup procedures?
A: No

Q:What has been your favorite creation thus far? What did you use to create it?
A: A northern lights look I did that was dedicated to my time spent in Alaska. I used the Morphe James Charles palette to create it.

Q: Have you ever experienced a funny makeup blooper?
A: I drop things all the time! One time I dropped an eyeliner and it drew a line down my face as it was falling. I couldn’t help but laugh.

Q: What tips can you give to someone that is struggling to learn?
A: Rome wasn’t built in a day. Never loose sight of why you do what you do and remember that makeup is supposed to be fun! Everyone’s are is unique to them so don’t get discouraged.
