5 Truths About Permanent Makeup

cosmetic makeup

Permanent makeup also known as cosmetic tattoo is becoming quite popular in the beauty industry. It came as a relief to many when it was discovered that there is a solution to issues like no eyebrow or thin eyebrows with the help of tattoo.

Wait! It doesn’t end there.

Do you know that you can get permanent red lips, lash line, and cover up scars with permanent makeup?

In fact, whatever challenge you have on your skin that needs correcting can be corrected with this procedure. The process is the same with getting a tattoo which involves needles and release of pigments into the skin.

What a relief it would finally be to say goodbye to lipsticks, eye pencils and liners after such tattoo (even if it isn’t forever.)

Before you get all excited and rush off to the nearest tech, here are 5 things you should bear in mind:

You need a licensed technician

Anything that has to do with your body, especially if it involves needles is not something to be toyed with. This is why you must insist on a licensed technician. The right technician will put safety first (you don’t want someone using unsterilized needles on you), and give you a perfect job not a disfigured face. If in doubt, ask a cosmetic surgeon to refer you to a licensed tattoo technician.

Ask to speak with former clients

It’s not enough to rely on the technician’s word of mouth. That he was referred to you by a cosmetic surgeon doesn’t mean you shouldn’t demand to see the tattoo technician’s previous works. Don’t stop there; demand to see some of his former clients to see things for yourself. If he is hesitant or not comfortable obliging you, it’s a clear indication that he’s not all he’s said to be.

Understand that it will hurt

A tattoo is not a walk in the park. It involves needles and will hurt. But, you will most likely receive local anesthetics to help with the pain.

It lasts for years

A well done permanent makeup tattoo should last between 2 to 5 years. If you got permanent red lips, the color will appear dark for like a week as the skin heals. However, it will become lighter after a month.

Exposing yourself to the sun very often will cause the ink used in the tattoo to fade faster than it ordinarily should. Nevertheless, it should still serve you for at least 2 years without the need for a touchup. In fact, any technician that offers free touchup within a year is not an expert. It’s a warning sign if you ask me.

There is no age limitation

Well, this is not speaking literally since no one would want to subject babies to tattoos. And speaking of babies, pregnant and lactating women, as well as cancer patients undergoing treatment or anyone taking certain medication, cannot partake. The thing is, permanent makeup is open to that teenager with a hideous scar, that career woman who doesn’t want to spend hours making up every day and also to grandma since losing her brows and lashes to old age. And it is not gender-selective.
